Follow the Energy: Every Breadcrumb Leads Somewhere

Energy doesn’t lie.

But let’s keep it real. We’ve all mastered the art of ignoring it, explaining it away, overriding it with logic, or chalking it up to “just stress.” Whether it’s the job itself, the environment, the culture, or the leadership, something inside whispers: this isn’t it. Yet we stay because it’s stable. Because we’re good at it. Because it’s what’s expected.

And then one day, the whisper turns into a hum, a bold reminder that maybe we’re meant for something else. Sometimes clarity doesn’t come in a flash. It hums quietly until you’re ready to listen.

I’ve felt that hum for years, and about a year ago, I finally decided to do something about it. That bold reminder shows up when I’m helping someone, when I’m learning and sharing with others, when I’m writing. There’s an enthusiasm that moves through me - steady, energetic, present. The more I paid attention, the more I realized it wasn’t random. It was direction. And knowing I wanted something different, it was finally time to take that step.

It took trial and error, a lot of honesty, and even more unlearning. But once I stopped dismissing it, I began to recognize it as my compass. The more I trusted where that energy pulled me, the clearer the path became.

Your energy tells the truth before you do.

If you’ve ever wondered what’s next, start by paying attention to your energy patterns. What fires you up doesn’t feel like a process; it feels natural and effortless. Think about the projects or hobbies that make you lose track of time. The conversations that leave you buzzing with ideas. The moments when you feel most like yourself.

Your body often knows before your mind catches up. Those sparks of energy are clues - breadcrumbs on the path toward alignment.

Every yes and no tells a story.

Every “yes” and “no” shapes your life’s path, and it looks different for each of us. The “no” can be just as much of a blessing as the “yes.”

Settling into midlife and turning 50 has only amplified that awareness for me. I view energy as a necessary filter for making decisions - whether it’s about people, projects, or opportunities. If it expands you, say yes. And if it drains you, say no, or at least not right now 😉.

It sounds simple, but it’s not always easy. It’s a muscle you have to build, especially when we’re conditioned to tolerate what depletes us, particularly when we’re good at it. And here’s the part we don’t talk about enough: ease isn’t laziness. It’s alignment. When something feels lighter, fluid, or more natural, it’s often because it fits. Learning to trust that, even after decades of pushing through, is a quiet kind of wisdom.

Alignment attracts what belongs.

When you begin to follow your energy, something naturally evolves - your network shifts. You start to notice the right people staying and the wrong ones fading into the background. The right people showing up, those who see you clearly, collaborate effortlessly, and encourage your growth.

It’s not a coincidence; that’s alignment. Your tribe appears when your energy does.

Look back; the breadcrumbs are there.

Every midlife chapter in this book we’re writing is intentional. Sometimes it’s obvious; other times, not so much. But if you look back with a shifted perspective, you’ll see the breadcrumbs - moments, patterns, and people that quietly led you here.

And if something no longer fits? Bloom where you’re planted, and prune what no longer grows you. Growth isn’t always about moving somewhere new. Sometimes it’s about tending differently to where you already stand.

Where is life already asking you to grow?

That may just be where your energy is waiting.

Until next time — be a good HUMAN
